History
As the Poly-Tex Company in 1975, the company’s first window extrusion operation began in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In that year, Chelsea made history, as the manufacturer of extruded profiles used in the first all-vinyl, double-hung tilt replacement window system ever available to the U.S. market.
By 1980, the company had grown to house five extruders, and moved once again to larger quarters; and by 1985, the company had grown to 15 extrusion machines—requiring the move to its present location in Oakmont, an eastern suburb of Pittsburgh.
In 1989, the company had grown to more than 24 extrusion lines and officially became Chelsea Building Products—a full-scale extrusion manufacturing operation that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week and produces millions upon millions of lineal extrusions per year.
